After several years of dedicated work, Omega 365 is transitioning to the new Omega 365 Core Technology platform. This Friday marks an important milestone as the old servers are turned off internally at Omega 365.

“This transition is driven by the need for scalability. As we continue to expand, the new technology platform offers the necessary infrastructure to support our future growth. We are undertaking this journey together, ensuring that Omega 365 and our clients are well-prepared for the next generation of technological advancements,” says Johnny Vik, Academy Manager at Omega 365, who, along with the rest of the Omega 365 core team, has worked to ensure everything is in place.

“The rollout to clients has begun, and we are fully focused on ensuring a smooth transition,” says Johnny Vik.

“This shift represents a generational leap forward, ensuring a robust foundation for the future, both in terms of front-end and back-end technologies. The Appframe technology platform has served us well for 25 years, and the team is confident that the new platform will sustain the company for at least as long, if not longer,” adds Vik.

“We know that the transition has presented some challenges for developers, support teams, and especially clients. While the deployment to clients is not fully completed, our primary focus is on facilitating a seamless changeover for everyone,” says Vik.

Benefits and future prospects

Omega 365 is now entering a phase of continuous improvement - prioritizing enhancements over large-scale rewrites.

“This transition has been in the making for the past seven to eight years, evolving from Appframe and Pims to Omega 365 on the new Core Technology Platform. The upcoming shutdown of the legacy server signifies a new era for Omega 365,” says Sigmund Lunde, Chairman at Omega 365.

Omega 365’s clients are also transitioning, with all clients now having the new Core Technology Platform installed. However, it will take a few months before all the legacy servers can be entirely decommissioned.

“We hope to celebrate all Omega 365 system clients running solely on the Omega 365 Core Technology Platform in Q3,” Lunde explains, adding that this change is specific to the Omega 365 solution and will not affect Pims clients.

Increased simplicity and cost savings

According to Lunde, a key benefit of this transition is reduced complexity.

"Optimizing cloud expenses is expected to enhance cost efficiency, as well as being an important sustainability measure," says Lunde.

“This transition to the new platform marks a pivotal moment for Omega 365, setting us on a path toward a sustainable and efficient technological future. The benefits of reduced complexity, cost savings, and a future-proof platform make the effort well worthwhile,” Lunde concludes.
