System developers Leif Hole, Adam Galal, and Leni Margrethe Skotte from the Omega 365 Solutions office in Bergen, along with Tor Aasheim, Thomas Eike Hustoft, and Elisa Gunnarshaug from the Haugesund office, all participated in the event in Oslo.

“None of us had attended the event before, but Leif Hole mentioned it on Teams. With such an exciting program, many of us were eager to take part”, says Tor Aasheim.

Data Saturday is a free event held regularly in various locations around the world. Organized and executed by volunteers, it is a non-profit initiative. In Norway, the event takes place annually in Oslo.

“The event was originally called 'SQL Saturday,' but as more topics were added to the program, the name was changed,” explains Aasheim.

The event ran throughout the day, divided into six sessions, each offering a range of lectures to choose from.

“The event was well organized, and the speakers were excellent, especially Ola Hallengren and Erland Sommarskog, both well-known figures in the SQL community. They’ve developed scripts and procedures that we still use with clients today,” adds Aasheim.

It was also an advantage to participate as a group.

“By choosing different topics from the program that interested us, we could share insights and discuss our thoughts afterward. This allowed us to get much more out of the day than if we had gone alone. I’d love to go back next year if the program is just as engaging,” Aasheim concludes.
